No Pain, No Gain!!!

This being my very first blog post I just spent the last five minutes wondering how to start off but then what better way is there to reduce the confusion than by sharing it??

So hoping that did enough "ice-breaking", I'll move on to the main part of this post. Today I started a kind of a practice application. As usual, Google proved to me my best friend and helped me understand a lot of issues in development. However, just having only a basic knowledge can be insufficient when trying to develop advanced applications.

But the chick cannot be inside the shell forever I guess. So I took a step short forward and tried a very very basic part of our application. The app was supposed to list the songs on the SD card and on clicking one of them, should start to play. Those of you, who have a thorough knowledge in mobile app development, might probably be smiling at the simplicity of the task. But to a very novice developer like me, to the extent that the function was basic,  it also proved extremely hard!

I was pouring over code for five hours before I got it. In the lifetime of a programmer, most errors are results of very simple (and at times, completely stupid) mistakes. Well, it was no different this time. After all that debugging I finally tracked the error (not going to mention what the error was or you'll probably roll out laughing!!). I usually am one for taking short breaks but this time I just couldn't stop until I got it. After all that sitting in one place and ending up with a headache I actually got it to work.

At that one moment when it worked all my grumbling just disappeared and only one emotion remained : Satisfaction. Ok go ahead and laugh all you want. But however simple it was, I managed to do it on my own and achieved it. Probably the most vital requirement in a programmer's life is satisfaction in what you achieve. However, to gain that satisfaction, we have to walk on the rocks and the thorns (without slippers of course!).

Once again, being my very first blog I thought to add a bit of motivation into it. So not only do I inform my progress in the app but also give some inspiration to those of you who are too quick to give up.

To me this is just the beginning of a trip in a very uncomfortable vehicle but I should manage the journey in the hopes that the destination will make all that struggle a worth!
